An installation of twelve chairs that make sounds when someone sits on them. Each chair plays the tuning sound of an orchestra — the A note of a different instrument.

Things usually overlooked because they exist for convenience function here as devices that bring small surprises and amusement. The work cannot exist without the active participation of viewers. By adding another element — “making a sound” — to the ordinary act of sitting, it creates a viewing space that people can take part in. Quietly blending into our everyday lives and then suddenly drawing passersby in as viewers, this device questions the role of objects in public space and explores their relationship with it. (Ryusuke Sakurada, halle)
